NLP with Hypnotherapy

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) looks at the way in which we think, store and process our thoughts (Neuro), the language patterns we use (Linguistic) and our behaviors (Programming), and how these interact to have a positive (or negative) effect on us as individuals.

NLP is also the study of human excellence, and how that excellence is achieved by the use of language and internal representations. It also includes a whole range of detailed information about language and its influence on behavior and performance in a variety of settings.

Hypnosis is a natural yet altered state of mind, where your mind is relaxed, highly focused, and open to positive suggestions.  The subconscious mind is where all our thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviors, and controls of our body live. It is responsible for about 92% of our life.  The conscious mind is where our analytical thought, willpower, and five senses live, which makes up the other 8% of our life.

The most effective way to make lasting change is to bypass the conscious mind and speak directly to the subconscious mind to examine your beliefs about yourself and how you view the world.

NLP combined with Hypnosis allows us to free ourselves from fear-based programming and assumed limitations.  These techniques can also help people break through what limits them mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually, and can decrease or completely eliminate physical/emotional pain or limiting beliefs.

This provides for an ongoing experience of your natural state of joy, health, abundance, love, ultimate peace and happiness.

These techniques are fast, easy and effective. They have been extensively studied, and are used worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

How does NLP with Hypnosis work?

By relaxing the critical factor, that chatterbox in our head, we are able to access the subconscious directly. The subconscious controls the body, autonomic nervous system, memory, emotions, beliefs, and imagination among other things, and helps to develop both character and personality.

Since most of our beliefs about the world in general were formed between the ages of 7 and 11, most of us are operating on an “outdated system” that we created years ago, but which does not always serve us well or appropriately now.

We may often notice that our emotional reactions are not warranted in certain situations, but we are unaware consciously how to change them. That is because the belief and the emotional response to it lie in the subconscious. By accessing the subconscious through hypnotherapy, we can “upgrade” that outdated system to give us tools that better serve us at this point in time, and replace unhealthy behaviors with new healthier ones.

During hypnosis, your body relaxes and your thoughts become more focused. Most of us are running around in a stressed out manner that causes the body to remain in a state of “fight or flight” on a daily basis! This state causes less blood to go the brain and gastrointestinal region, resulting in gastrointestinal issues and less than optimal brain functionality. However, just by being in the state of hypnosis, it lowers blood pressure and heart rate, changes certain types of brain wave activity, and puts the body back into a balanced state of homeostasis. In this relaxed state, you will feel at ease physically, yet alert mentally and highly responsive, and come out of hypnosis feeling much more relaxed and balanced than when you first started.

What will my first session be like?

  • If you are new to NLP with Hypnosis, I’ll give you a brief explanation of how it works.

  • After a review of your personal information, agreement form, and current needs, we will discuss the highest priority issue that you would like to resolve.

  • Based on the above, we do a quick interview regarding this issue.

  • Next, we do an “ecology check” to make sure that all parts of you agree to make these changes.

  • We then begin the NLP with Hypnotherapy session, which includes the following:

  • Gently guiding you into a natural, relaxed, and altered trance-like or hypnotic state.

  • Guiding you through a transformational NLP process with your full participation.

  • Slowly bringing you back up to full awareness, with you feeling relaxed, calm, and satisfied with the changes you’ve made.

  • Finally, I will give you participatory suggestions as homework to help accelerate your results.

Do I need to complete any intake forms?

Yes.  Please download and complete the following documents and bring them in with you to your first appointment:

How many sessions will I need?

After the first session, each session lasts an average of 45-90 minutes, depending on the needs of the client. Most people see some positive results after the first session, but many choose to have several more to reach optimal results. The average number of sessions for a given issue is between 1 and 3, though some issues like weight-loss and smoking cessation need as many as 6. So most clients achieve the results they desire in 1 to 6 sessions. You and I will monitor and evaluate your progress over time.

Children are easily hypnotized and may respond after only one or two visits. However, if the adult or child does not wish to be hypnotized it will not work; as an NLP Practitioner cannot force someone to do something they don’t wish to. So generally speaking, the more willing the client is to “just go with it,” the faster and more effective the results are.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

No, people with brain damage cannot be hypnotized.  And NLP with hypnosis works best with average to above average functioning individuals. It is not as successful and not recommended with people who have serious mental disease. If you are willing to be hypnotized, then you are a great candidate. If you are not a naturally responsive subject you can improve your receptivity to hypnosis with practice. Each time you are hypnotized and practice self-hypnosis, you can become more and more responsive and susceptible to it.

Is it dangerous?

No, the induction of NLP with hypnosis and NLP with hypnosis itself are not dangerous to the subject. But it should be mentioned that personal disappointments may arise because of unrealistic expectations or preconceived misinformation.

Can a person in the state of hypnosis be controlled?

Impossible! It only appears that way in “stage hypnosis”, where the hypnotist asks for volunteers (many of whom have been drinking and who are already willing as they are volunteering themselves), or picks likely people to come on stage and participate. However, "stage hypnosis" is no different than any other hypnosis in that it is still absolutely impossible to make someone do something that is against their will, values or beliefs. So, even their participants must be willing to participate.

Professional NLP with hypnosis is quite different. As an NLP Practitioner, I am there to help you with your issues, and need your cooperation with the process. If I were to give you suggestions that you didn’t agree with or were morally against your beliefs, you would express that to me or refuse them outright. You do not “black out” when hypnotized, and you are not sleeping or else you would not be able to respond to me as the NLP Practitioner!

Can a person be stuck in hypnosis?

Never! There is absolutely no danger to you of being stuck in a state of hypnosis.
